The honeymoon was a lot of fun! We left March 9 for a seven day cruise of the Western Caribbean. We went on Carnival Cruiselines and our ship was the Paradise, the only nonsmoking ship Carnival has. Our room was very nice, it was a good size and had a window. Mike and I weren't very good cruisers though. We only saw one show and spent only 10 minutes and $5 in the casino. Mike didn't even make it into the pool! We managed to not overeat too much, but I have to admit our bar tab was a bit high!
Our stops along the way were:
Belize City, Belize:
We had a lot of fun in Belize. The country is beautiful, very lush and hilly. It has the longest living reef in the world. (Apparently most of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is dead, did you know that?) But we didn't manage to go snorkeling. We went tubing instead! (I know, we can go tubing in Gainesville anytime we want, why are we going to a foreign country to do that?) There was a tour that took you tubing down a river and through some caves, it was great! Not nearly as cold as the Itchetucknee, and very picturesque. Later we ate lunch (something they said was chicken, but Mike says was not) and had the native beer Belizan at a really cute outdoor restaurant. For those of you who care about foliage there were bougainvillea blooming everywhere and monster ficus trees.
Roatan, Honduras:
We didn't do much besides shopping here. Roatan is pretty new to the tourist bit, but the people were nice, the prices were fantastic, and the area itself quite beautiful.
Grand Cayman:
Mike had been here before, so I let him show me around. We ate at an open bar next to the water and drank the native beer, (Stingrays) which we later realized were costing us $7.50 a bottle! Then we toured and shopped some more. What we didn't blow at the casino we certainly made up for in T-shirts and liquor at the ports! Grand Caymen was very pretty, but by far the most expensive of anywhere we went.
Cozumel:
I think I liked Cozumel best of all the ports. While there we went to this private island, Passion Island, and let them feed us and give us beer and margarita's all day. This is the island where a few of the Corona commercials were shot, so of course we had to drink that while there! After we got off the island, we toured Cozumel, ate dinner, drank more margaritas and bought yet more T-shirts and liquor. But why did I like Cozumel best? The cleanest public restrooms I have ever seen in my life! They have people there who clean them for you between each use! Can you believe it?
All in all we had a wonderful time and highly recommend the trip to anyone who is considering it!
